Default Can I pay a Cheque into my bank account that is in my maiden name?

Hello everyone, just wondering can I pay a cheque into my bank accout that is in my maiden name. I am married and I use both names as I did not change it on unimportant things, but my bank accout is in my married name.
Thanks in advance

I think so, because your maiden name is still your legal name. It might be best to take the check directly to a teller though rather than depositting it into a machine.

A lot of things have changed since 911 and banks are much more strict on deposits. For example, if you wanted to deposit an account into your own account, but you have no ID and you do not have your ATM card the bank should nott allow it to happen.
If a relative wanted to deposit into your account, they would need to know your banking number, not your pin, and they would have to have ID. As far as using your maiden name, you can deposit the check into the account with your new name. One thing you could do is write "Pay to the order of ________" (and insert your name that is on the account) on the back of the check where you typically sign. The bank shoudl then take your check no matter what.

I was able to recently in my bank, I took in my marriage certificate and passport, the bank took copies of both.

I was told the clearing centre might refuse the cheque and it might take longer to clear.

It did take a day longer but it wasn't an issue.

That was Natwest bank by the way & I have been married 4 years and one thing had to slip through the name changing net!

Yes Katrina you can. You must have provided proof of your wedding by submitting a copy of your Marriage Certificate but the Bank will know who you are as they have a record of both names.

Yes, you can. I received a check in my maiden name after I got married and was able to deposit it. Just ask the bank teller how to endorse it. You'll probably have to sign your maiden name with your married name underneath.

Yes, as long as there are sufficient funds in the account to cover the check
